Dream in D minor
This is a bit strange.
I woke up out of a dream the other morning where a piece of music had been playing. It was no Yesterday, but since I’m working on new music it seemed churlish not to try and record it somehow. I wrote down what I could remember and worked out the key by fumbling around on the piano. It was in D minor, of course.
The whole thing felt original except a short section in the middle which sounded like the intro to the Neil Cowley Trio’s ‘Rooster was a Witness’ played in a wholly different rhythm to the original. I checked with the writer of this cracking tune (please check it out on the album, Face of Mount Molehill) and found it too was in D minor.
I wonder if I’ve defaulted to D minor so many times that I’m dreaming in it.
