I started the new year with a dream. To do better work (in every sense), to be more true to myself and (of course) to play more music, viruses allowing.

Thanks to a generous Christmas present, the family and I got to investigate Compton Verney. It's a large house in beautiful grounds. The house was derelict until the early 1990s, when it was bought and restored. The new owners use it, and a new wing, to house art. There are permanent collections but also regularly changed temporary ones. The idea is to appeal to as wide an audience as possible. I was a little sceptical about this but must admit they've done a good job. If you're local enough, it's worth a visit.

The couple, seen in the house's chapel, must have had their own dreams, but they probably didn't include playing bass with a group of excellent musicians.
