My daughter's headteacher recommended the RSC's production of Macbeth, with Christopher Eccleston as the titular King. When we arrived and saw the three witches were being played by little girls in onesies, clutching teddy bears, my heart sank. I didn't want my daughter's first proper Shakespeare experience to be ruined by gimmicks. Luckily, I was very wrong and the play grabbed us for the whole performance. In the interval, when I asked Freya if she wanted to go home, she replied, "are you kidding!" Much blood, blind ambition and drama later we staggered out feeling this was just the first father/daughter Shakespeare trip.
